Trauma-focused intervention for cycles of community gun violence: From hospital to clinic and community
Presented by John Nanney, PhD, the purpose of this course is to describe how trauma-focused interventions--in hospitals, clinics, and in the community--may used to arrest these cycles of community gun violence. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing the profound racial health disparities associated with gun violence and considering how extant, evidence-based practices may be most effectively tailored to serve most effected populations.

• Learning Objectives •

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Recognize the specific relationships between firearm victimization, traumatic stress reactions, and risk of future firearm-related violence and re-injury.
2. Describe how structural violence drives marked racial health disparities in the cycle of community gun violence.
3. Understand and apply evidence-based principles when intervening with victims of firearm violence, including community-based strategies to mitigate both individual and population level risk.
